Our paper analysing a large number of venoms.

The short answer is 'most of them'. The long answer is a bit more subjective.

Colubroidea venom paper

Darn i made a ton of errors in my fist post, what i meant to ask was what are the genera of venomous colubrids as or more venomous than the hognose or colubrids whos bites are at least concidederd mild trouble...

Hi mate

Thats a hard one to answer, there are the usual suspects on the totally harmless despite containing venom (Elaphe-type, Ptyas, Gonyosoma, Thamnophis) those which have caused notable effects (Boiga, Coluber) and those which are potentially lethal (Dipholidus, Malpolon, Psammophis, Rhabdophis).

There are a massive number though that are ???? like Madagascarophis in Madagascar, they are genetically much much closer to elapids than to corn snakes.

The venoms of the various 'colubrid' snakes that are lethal are scattered about, with each family having at least one known dangerous member.

I almost bought some Madagascarophis at a show. The guy had had them for a year and a half. I said 'have they ever bitten you?' and he said 'no'... so I didn't buy them because I remembered that I used to think Psammophis was harmless too!

Whats high orange mean?

Ferdelance_1 Aug 30, 2003 11:14 PM

I am not sure what you are talking about?

If you are talking about a meter/graph, that depics the dangerousness of a particular venomous snake, the color Orange would represent the following: that more than likely an envenomation from this particular species will be lethal to homosapians, without prompt and proper medical treatment. The color Red would represent: that an envenomation from this particular species will almost definitely be lethal to homosapians, without prompt and proper medical treatment.

I personally wouldn't rely on such meters/graphs! There are many species, that in my opinion, are metered in the Orange zone that really belong in the Red zone, and species not in the Orange zone that "SHOULD BE". The Yellow zone speaks for itself: use EXTREME CAUTION! One other thing, there was and now is a very good possibility that snakes metered even in the green and Blue zones could very well be dangerous.

Hope this helps, if not you might have learned something you didn't already know.

Yes i spell bad sometimes i need to reread what i type more often...sorry...

No that doesnt sound like it, http://www.exoticjungle.net/htm/snakes.htm if you scroll down to the venomous snake section the first one on the list, the cobra, underneath it says high orange in brackets, im trying to find out what it means...

High Orange is the color of this particular "Albino", (Monocellate/Monocled/Suphan Cobra). Albino kaouthias come in a variety of colors: High Orange, White, Leuchistic(sp?), Sunrise Orange,(not sure if sunrise is the correct word)ect. In my opinion these Albino kaouthias are magnificently beautiful serpents.

Thanks for all the help, yeah it was off topic but i didnt think it warented a new thread,

Are usually quite subjective and usually are just what someone thought sounded good at the time. Although I think there is a recessive trait called 'Sunset' that Diamond reptiles has. They apparently look like albinos but have different eyes. Other than that, high orange is usually in the eye of the beholder.
