Breeding question, help please

coheed196 Apr 17, 2008 08:01 AM

Ok, i know im getting a late start, but last night i put my female in with the male to see if they would mate. Well i watched them for about 25 mins to see what would happen. The male kept licking the ground and licking his lips and everything which i know he was just smelling her and all that, and at first she seemed interested but then she stood up real tall on all 4 legs and just didnt pay him any attention, so needless to say no gecko loving went on. Now i know that sometimes the females just dont want to mate for whatever reason but my question is what to do now. Do i just wait a couple days and give it another go or what? Im not sure how old the female is, i got her from a reptile show and the vender said she has been bred before, I've had her for about 6 months and weigh her every 2 weeks or so and she has weighed 58 grams ever since i got her so i know she's an adult. The male I've had for 4 months and he has weighed 60 grams ever since i got him. I am not a beginner to reptiles, i've kept reptiles for several years i am just new to breeding them. Below is a picture of the female. anyways sorry for such a long post, thanks for any replies

They breed very quickly and you could miss it. I would leave them together for atleast a week so she can get used to him and maybe then she will be more receptive of him.

Thats not uncommon, it took alot of perserverence to get my females to mate with my male. I had to put them in with my male for an hour everyday for about a two weeks. I would try everyday and monitor them to ensure they breed. Look under your female, you should clearly see her ovum which should be large and enflamed. This is when you know she is def. ready. Good luck.

Thank you for your responses and advice. I guess I'll just have to let them date and get to know each other first haha.
