black pine questions

geckoejon Apr 17, 2008 09:15 PM

i'm considering adding a pair of bp's to the family in the not too distant future and am curious about a couple things. i would assume that the darker the parents-the darker the offspring. is that correct. i've seen some very nice looking adults on this site and am looking for hatchlings that will grow into all black large adults down the road. i am prettyb good at doing my part, just need the genetics to be there.
i would love a pair of indigos but am not paying 2,000 for a pair of anything! i love my critters, but i just can't see that. to each there own. so, i'm considering the bp's.
and finally any recomendations as to breeders that have had some nice offspring, preferably in the central florida area, or that will be in daytona this year? i will do delivery if it's the right circumstance, but would much rather be in person. thanks...

generally , dark breeders produce dark offspring but that is not always the case. I used to have some top shelf adults, probably some of the best looking adults out there that would produce heaviliy patterned hatchlings. The hatchlings would be black by the time they got to be 3-4' long, but you would never guess it by their initial appearance.
Good looking black pine hatchlings (as far as the patternless appearance goes) are harder to come by and most are already taken before expo season rolls around. It takes a little bit of research to find who's got what!
best of luck,
