Spanish or Portuguese Common Names for Cribo/Musarana

madmatt Aug 29, 2003 09:52 PM

Hello,

I do not post much on this forum but find myself looking to fieldherping in Iquitos Peru but no guide knows cribos or mussaranas by description or latin name.

Anyone know what the Spanish or even Portuguese common names are for these guys?

Promise to post pic if I can find some here in the jungle.

Matt

Cribos are often called Zipilota in Spanish.

Mussuranas in Portugese are muçurana, limpa-mato, cobra-preta

I know of no particular name for the yellowtail cribo in the Iquitos region. The mussurana is locally known as "cassadora negro" = black hunter. Terry Vandeventer
