Updates on gravid females

python2000 Apr 18, 2008 07:57 AM

Hi!
My male spider bred 3 normals since december 23. He bred each females at least 5 times since march 19. All females were eating small rats every 10-15 days all the breeding period but stopped on the end of february. Between 27th february and 12th march all females shed and became lightener and a bit fatter, the male bred them one or two times each after this shed, with particular attraction. I was out of home for several days and i couldn't check them so much. After around 19 march the male started not to be interested in them anymore, at all i tryed severla times but nothing but it's not due to the male because if i'll introduce him with a 06 female that i would not breed this year, he'll start courting immediatly and he would breed in short time if i would not remove it. Now 2 of them are in shed again, i think it's pre lay shed. I noticed that since about 10-20 days ago they were always in the cooler end of the cage, now they're in the hotter almost all time. The third female is not in shed yet but becoming darker.
Regarding that I have a question to you. I noticed they became pretty slim in the tail and neck area and the spinal cord is more evident as theyr section became quite triangular but they have a third of theyr body quite large for to be simply dehydrated. My problem is that i cannot feel or see the eggs. If i'm picking em up they're hard muscled and when i'm palpating em they seem full of something but no eggs can be felt. One now in shed is more soft and seems full of "little balls" but no large ones. Theyr weight is just the same or even a little more than in december 23, when they started breeding.

What you think? It's my first time and i'm a bit concerned.

Here's the pics of the females taken a week ago.

From the description you gave it sounds like you have eggs to look foreward to, but only time will tell. They really start to lump up around 20 days after pos, so after the next shed it should be much more noticable. One of my females was in her glow phase for about a month, but she has become considerably darker now after ovulation. It's hard to tell from the pics, but I would expect eggs in the near future. It's easier for me to tell by picking them up around the neck area and the tail area and the lumps are more pronounced when looking at the belly. My fingers are crossed for you! Keep us updated.
