Visible girth

jlotto22 Apr 18, 2008 10:07 AM

Im almost certain my snakes are gravid. I noticed the classic swelling in all of them. My question is, "Do you start to see more girth or full swelling after the pre-lay shed"? None of them have shed yet, but just wondering when they will start filling out noticably. Sorry my first time. Please help me uderstand.

Have they ovulated yet? Because they look noticably swollen for a good while before they actually ovulate. After they ovulate and before they shed, they go back down. Then after they shed, they start swelling again as the eggs develop. Between about a week after they shed up until they lay, they just get fatter and fatter. What you're actually seeing all depends on what stage of the breeding cycle they're in.

Fantastic! Yes they have ovulated. None have shed yet, but you are correct. They all exibited about a 5 to 6 inch swelling at about the last two thirds of their bodies. I guess I just need to be patient and wait untill after their pre-lay sheds, to see them start swelling. This whole ordeal has been really cool, I have learned so much with help from people like yourself. Thanx. Jesse
