Few pix from today DIAL UP WARNING

dfr Aug 29, 2003 10:13 PM

` We had a nice foggy [normal] day here on the Redwood Coast. Got up to 60 degrees, nice warm Boid weather. I can only have them outside for about a half-hour, at this temperature. IR thermometer is a must. Perfect light for pix with strobe-fill.

` I've never measured him. He's a little tub, but he thinks he's one of the big guys. I don't want to burst his bubble.

Im not crazy about mixing species. However, that is a beautiful set up you have there, and beautiful snakes. What kind of camera do you use? Mine never come out that good.

` I am not crazy about mixing species, either. I am VERY careful about it. Only certain individuals qualify.
` The camera is a Fuji S602 Zoom, digital. I got it because it goes from full auto, to full manual. It has auto or manual focus that really works manually, if you want. It is much more functional than my Nikon Coolpix. You can operate it one-handed.
` Here's where the auto settings come in handy! They're not quite as good as the ones composed with dual strobes, but some pictures just don't wait for you to fiddle!

Very nice, how much did a camera like that run ya?? I figured there was something behind the species mixing, I didnt assume it was just random, just be careful. It so seems your doing great on that end tho.

Whats your biggest green?

Thanks
Chris

` I got the Fuji in 2002. It retailed for almost $1,000. I searched around on the internet and found it for $550. I found a few lower prices, but they were for smuggled in cameras, without included factory accessories, AND without U.S. distributor's warranty. Do you already have a digital camera? If so, what kind?
` You're right, there is something behind the species mixing. It's time for another layer of the dogma to be removed from Boids, and especially Anacondas.
` I don't keep Greens, anymore. I've known some very tame Greens, but they are just too large, and heavy, for my purposes. My largest is a young female Yellow, over 11 feet, more than 50 pounds, and still growing toward maturity. She is very tame and gentle, but when she decides she wants to do something, she can be determined. Anacondas are heavier, and much stronger than the other Boids. That is plenty of snake for me.

` This is a picture of them mating, from Dec., 2002.

yeah...I have a coolpix 2500...not the best camera, it doesnt do too bad, but nothing like the one you have there.

I have a 4ft green that is very laid back...you can view him at http://www.printroom.com/PictureSearch.asp?userid=CFoley, under boas.

Hes fine for me because I dont have any real purpose for anacondas besides maybe a large display/edu animal. I breed and keep smaller things along the lines of carpets, d/alberts and various pythons...

I always enjoy your pics, and seeing that alternative husbandry techniques DO work for some people and some snakes. Keep up the good work, and keep the pics coming. That BP is so funny, out barkin' with the big dogs.
