Black Milk breeding behaivior

Weekendherper Apr 18, 2008 12:13 PM

Last week I decided to put my 02 male and 05 female black milks together for the first time. The male is just over 6ft and she's just over 4ft. I put the female in the male's 4x2 cage (her cage is too small for both of them). They were on opposite sides for a couple of minutes when suddenly the female got into a striking posture, moved within 2 feet of the male, and launched herself at him. I grabbed her and took her out before either was injured. If anything I was worried about the smaller female's safety! Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas? I'm hesitant to try and pair them up again.

I guess the obvious question would be are you sure you don't have two males? I have seen this aggressive behavior from two males but not usually with a 1.1 pair. If the female is not ready, generally she'll just try to avoid the male but that usually doesn't involve striking, at least in my experience.

She may still be a year away also...

Good luck.

That's interesting, I have never seen my blacks aggressive towards anything. I've had my pair together a few times and they just crawl around, prett much ignoring each other. No sparks yet.
