Panther Chameleons Hatching...A Few questions!!!!!

lizardskin Aug 29, 2003 10:32 PM

This is my first time breeding Panthers. I've been patiently waiting for this day for the past seven months. Tonight the eggs started to hatch. I've got one cham all the way hatched and in it's new home. (A little plastic pet cage with very small branches, small enough for it's small feet, and paper towel in the floor.) I have a retile room that is climate controled. So mantaining a temp slightly cooler then the adults is not going to be a problem. But I'm wondering what is the best method for suppling water? Should I start lightly misting the cage a few times a day? Or is this something I should wait a few days to start. I'm going to the store tomorrow to get flightless fruit flies and true pinheads.

Has anyone ever done this before that has any good advice for me. I'm very excited about my new arrivals. I have 17 more eggs left to hatch. Five of them have already started.

Thank you!

you should definitely mist the cage a couple of times a day. the babies don't have very much body weight, so they will dehydrate quickly. i would try to avoid directly spraying them though, you don't want them to be frightened, you want them to drink.
