Does a humid box forego ambient humidity?

Pythonpapa Aug 29, 2003 10:52 PM

I like to keep a dry substrate of newspaper, but living in the desert, humidity is hard to maintain. My blood uses his humid box off and on, so I was wondering if it was good enough to let him self regulate his humidity.

id still spray the cage occassionally. just to provide a little more ambient humidity. the moss box is the main source...but ill tell ya, in ny our houses get VERY dry in the winter, this well be my bloods 3rd winter and so far not a single feeding or shedding problem. just python adolescence, which means shes hissing alot right now, but no strikes, and she eats like clock work.

we get very dry in winter, but ive always used the moss box method, i kept her on slightly moist bed a beast, and it wasnt bad, i had some scale dimpling, which is more common with conditions being too wet, but does happen if its too dry. but the moss box works very well. and its honestly how i keep all of my snakes, from my very common hatchling ball python, to my much less common Aru island scrub python. much easier than trying to balance good ventilation and a higher humidity. aka, the more ventilation you have the harder it is to keep humid, but we work around that with the moss box...good luck
