Breeding question?

nathandh Apr 20, 2008 11:25 AM

I am having trouble finding a good cornsnake genetics source.

I currently have a normal striped.

What options would I have for breeding?

For instance would a normal stripe x amelanistic = amel striped?

Please help,
Thank you

a normal stripe x amel would give you normals het amel het stripe

this is a link to what I would consider to be the best genetics program out there.

I would suggest you buy a book called the corn snake morph guide.
It is updated yearly and very well done.

Assuming no hidden hets - striped X amel will result in normal corns that are het stripe het amel.

Line breed those normals and you statistically would get -

9/16 - normal 66% het amel 66% het stripe
3/16 - amel 66% het stripe
3/16 - stripe 66% het amel
1/16 - stripe amel

-=-
If your stripe is already het amel (and it might be - a LOT of snakes are) - you would get from your first generation:

1/2 - normal het stripe het amel
1/2 - amel het stripe

etc.

Anyway - look for the 2008 corn morph guide. It will help you figure things out.
