Breeding Rack

junglehabitats Aug 29, 2003 11:25 PM

well i finally decided to build the rack and get the breeding out of the tubs i was using way to much heat & stress on them in there i think .So i built this 4 drawer rat rack . Im using a 3.6 ratio for breeding and so far looks like ill be more then enough for feeding my lil clan of snakes.righ now since monday and 3-4 weeks ago i have had 1a female of the 6 drop 7 on monday , one dropped 8 this morning and one looks like she would pop out 10 or so overnight and then 3 remaining rats are in with males i hope to have them cycle so that theres always one with babies and then slow down fro mthere since the majority of my snakes will need the larger snacks for food only 4 babies for now so rat pinks and pups should stay high first few weeks of breeiding so i can freeze a supply and raise the others up some ok enough blabbling from me here a shot and theres a few more pics in the album of it

Even on a smaller sized rack you might still want to consider the auto-watering system. Saves a ton of time and makes it easy to always keep water available to all the rats. Very nice!

yeah the auto watering is coming , im going to pick up the supplies monday when the place opens . But was in need of bottles until then

Since we only have the Kingsnake now, I was breeding a few mice, but waiting for them to get to an adequate size was a pain - also why breed mice when I can breed rats?! So now we're back with one pair of rats - I'll pick up another female tomorrow. Our first female just had 12 healthy, big ole' pups - a good start to another year of HS biology!

I see that yours must be a modified version of this one which is on the kingsnake.com rat rack building section. Great mod!

You did a great mod. Way to go in adapting the design to your specific need (which apparently is four tubs instead of 12 tubs)!

I personally may adapt it to six tubs. I will use some tubs for rats and some for mice

cheers.
