An Iguana Cold???

boushaw Apr 20, 2008 03:20 PM

So last night I swear I heard Dante sneeze and this morning he looks at me and his nose drips, literally, clear liquid like a tear came right out of his nose. Can he get a cold? What do I do for a cold? i don't think he would like chicken soup(just kidding) What are we doing wrong that this would happen? Thank you for your time and advice.

One word...snalt. Iguanas sneeze to get rid of excessive salt that has build up in their bodies. Sneezing is not a sign of respiratory infections in reptiles. Have you changed his diet recently? If you have been feeding a particular item for a long time, try changing up the greens more often or switching to some other green as a staple that doesn't causing so much snalting. It's not really a bad thing, just excessive salt in the diet. Maybe yours is just snaltier than others. If he's getting white deposits on his nose, you can wipe them off with a damp paper towel or cloth.

Yes, my iguana get that from time to time, also. There is nothing to worry about like previously mentioned.
