Come to think of it....

CrimsonKing Apr 20, 2008 05:34 PM

..I really like mex mex. ha!

Actually they have been a favorite of mine for years. I used to breed them to get the lightest and brightest

but always got some variation no matter the pairings.
I produced many like this one I picked up today..

and bred for aberrancies for a while. Then went back to the more typical look.
After seeing some of the more "refined" aberrancies like the "granite" phase becoming a bit more popular than the textbook looking ones. I decided to plug some back into my lines.
So... I think I'll use these as a start.

What do you think?

Things are goin better this week. Had the flu last week and I thought it was gonna kill me! Did you pick that snake up at the reptile expo that was down south this weekend? If so how was it? Kevin

...I did get the three showing the "granite" look there today.
I hadn't planned on buying anything..and was going to wait for dusk to road cruise for a while but had to nix that after making several purchases! ha!
The 3 new ones are all males so one or two will probably have to go.
One of my females usually produces a few that look somewhat like that so maybe I'll get lucky if I breed one of the best with her.
Yeah the flu that was going around was one that just kept hangin' on.
Hope all breeds well for you and your kids this year.

Hey Mark are these snakes finnicky eaters? I thought I've read that before, that they're hard to get on frozen/thawed.

Eddie,
They certainly wont chow down like Belle does. But they are manageable. Mex Mex, Grey Band, Thayeri and Greeri are all related, with Mex Mex being the most likely to feed, and Greeri being the most difficult. (At least in my experience)

"The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think. Oh by the way, which ones pink?"

EddieF Apr 21, 2008 07:20 AM

Why do you think that is? Is it because in 'real life' they eat more lizards or something than rodents, and it's just not as natural a transition?

I have had a few that were but not many and not for long. They typically take f/t with litle problems.
In my experience, of the mexicana complex they are easiest to take to our way of feeding.
One of the reasons I like 'em.
