Update on "prolapse" Ed the sulcata

zab Aug 29, 2003 11:56 PM

Well it's been 2 weeks. 2 expensive weeks. Took him to the vet. The vet tried the least invasive approach first and tried to manually reinsert the organ. Felt a stone. X-ray revealed a golf-ball sized bladder stone in the way of where his penis should go. Surgery thru the vent to break up and remove stone. After 1 week the organ was back out out again and now it's looking a little yucky. Nerve damage most likely. Back to the vet, "snip" he removed the end of the penis. Ed's on baytril and getting back to his old self.He did lose 2 pounds during this ordeal and is still not eating real well. So now it can't hang out (no more fanning). However the vet says he could still impregnate a female sulcata. Hahaha. There will be no baby sulcatas on my watch! He is now one very 'valuable' tortoise. So let's total that up....that's 3 vet visits and 1 x-ray and 2 surgeries and anethesia 3 times and 2 rounds of baytril. $$$$$$ Jeez!
