Motley x Arabesque litter !

Siegi Apr 21, 2008 01:50 PM

this is my second litter this year, and its great.
I love those guys, Motleys, Arabs, Motleybesques
and Normals all pos. het Albino.
But its hard to tell the Motleybesques from the Motleys.
Does anyone have an Idea ?

Thanks.

Hard to tell. I think we'll need tons of individual pics to draw a reasonable conclusion.

There are some real smokers in that litter. Big time congrats!

Wow! Congrats on an outstanding litter. I've been waiting to see normal motley arabesques to see just how they would turn out. It obvious that the motley pattern is overwhelming most of the arabesque features.

To answer your question I would look at significant difference in head stripes and head coloration. The top left motley and bottom right motley kinda have distinguishable head stripes and head coloration. The only reason I say this is that the arabesque traits that have been combined with dominant/codominant traits so far mostly always have arabesque head stripes and speckling. I say this because Grindstaffs Salmon Jungle Arabesques kept the head stripe/speckling and Mark Hauge's albino motley arabesque's still had the arabesque head stripe and speckles. Hopefully there will be more distinguishable differences once they shed. I can't wait to see the individual pics. Congrats! Trey Schneller

By arabesque head stripe I mean a wider/shapelier head stripe.

BrownsBoas Apr 21, 2008 03:27 PM

I would have to agree with Trey on his theory! The animal in the top left corner with the almost black head looks like what I would think a Motley X Arabesque would look like. This morph needs a new name to identify it not sure who produced them first, but I am willing to bet it was Jeremy! Anyways fantastic litter!

Back in 2006, stillborns though. Also produced the Hypo version.

I agree, that one you pointed out does look like the Double, I saw one other that stood out. After they are cleaned up and shed it should be easier to pick out the traits.

I don't see any regular arabesques in there? Which seems odd?
On first glance I was thinking the motely ones with the deeper coloration and body striping were the motley-arab's... but I've never had first hand experience with either so take that for what it's worth.
Congrats on a beautiful litter!

looking at it again, I may see 2 arabs in there, I guess it was the lack of a highly speckled head that was throwing me off but I do see the chain link back pattern.

Congratulations on that beautiful litter. As everyone else, I look forward to seeing individual pix of them.

in the top corner. It looks very unique...

Ophidia_Junkie Apr 21, 2008 05:29 PM

I think it's the two with the stripes going on. Top and lower left.

I think the Arab is tweaking the Motley a bit Myself.

In my arabesque X motley litter last year (which had no normal motleys, only albinos) I felt that the motley arabesques had these distinct saddles, like fenestrated double doors

I see one baby in your picture with saddles like that. Mark

Congratulations! I can imagine that animals that have both mutations could have a huge range in their appearance. i look forward to seeing them all cleaned up.

I'm thinking Arabs are going to affect
the base color ,speckling and head stripe.
what Mark said about
"fenestrated double doors" Really sounds interesting though.

Thank you for the replies.
The "H"-Thing sounds interesting I noticed that also but dont
thought it could be the key to the motleybesques. Thanks Mark.
I will post detail pics after their first shed.

I certainly would think that long striped one with the double door saddles near the back is a arab motley. One of mine had the long wiggly stripe, too.

Great litter. Mark
