Shipping Roaches to Florida...

prosteven Apr 21, 2008 04:31 PM

What is the deal with shipping live roaches to Florida?? I have not been able to find any information online on why or if it is even illegal?

Roach breeders won't even reply to my messages on Kingsnake when I tell them I live in FL..

It'll be great if someone can provide me with some info about this..

( What about other states like Arizona or California? is it because the wheater? )

Thanks.

it,s because the critters get loose and breed and cause problems.
like the gater eating snake in the glades, camens.red piranah, tilapia etc. thats not native to fla. from about Tampa south your basicly sub=tropic to tropics and these strange monsters can do very well and throw everything off balance, hissing roaches were baned years ago

If you talk to the guy that runs the Agricultural Department. He can grant permits to bring in all Male Hissers. Certain other roaches are legal to bring into the state since they already exist here. It might take some effort but it is possible. There is a pet store near me that sells hissers.

If you have any questions contact this guy. I found him very helpful. I was allowed to get in Blaberus and one ofther type of roach because they already exist in Florida. I was also able to get Hissers. But only males. If I was going to use them for feeders. Hope this helps. TODD

Thanks a lot for the link with the laws and the info..

It's funny that only certain roach breeders are aware of these laws while others ( I won't mention any names so please don't ask ) have no problem sending roaches to FL.

I think that the trade of roaches or other insects between states can be very difficult for any government institution to control.

At the end it falls in the hands of roach keepers to make sure they don't allow any to scape and never to release any into the environment.

I couldnt fathom those weak little roaches sold as food competing with our huge monster Florida roaches .
