How long is this going to take!!

Hi, can anyone please help. In 2007 I spent just under $10.000 on 4 boas from a reputable breeder. He has applied for CITES permit back in September 2007 so as to get them shipped to me back here in th U.K. and up to now still has not got this paperwork! It is now 8 Months!!. He must be frustrated as I know I am! Does this paperwork vary from state to state. Ie If you live on the west coast are you likley to get your paperwork sooner or later than the east coast?.
Thanks
Alan

I have absolutely no personal experience with this permit system but get the impression from others that the bureaucracys involved are making an effort to delay or prevent the trade in such "vile" and "dangerous" animals as serpents.

It is just ridiculous. Bottom line is, regarding my shipment of boas - do I ask for my money back from the seller as he can not fore fill is obligation (no fault of his) or wait, and if I wait how long?

If it were me, and the animals were in good care I would try to wait out the process. You may end up with breeding size animals by the time they ship...... But I would also talk to the breeder and make sure he holds the funds in case things do fall apart later so he can issue a full refund..... in other words make sure he did not already spend the cash

I would also try to work together with the breeder to contact the agency responsable for the hold up to see if it can moved through, also it would be nice to know if the deal was somehow flagged or under some kind of audit that is causing the extended delay.
