won't use the egg box

itsbudluv Apr 21, 2008 08:42 PM

I have an adult female that for the second time in a row laid her eggs under the basking light in her cage, she sleeps in her egg box but won't use it for thr eggs, the box has sand and vermiculite in it, but she won't use it. If anyone has any ideas I sure could use them. Thanks

Hi, what I might try is moving her lay box under the basking light..it should help

Try using potting soil with a little sand mixed with it. Take her out of her cage and put her in the container. I use one approximately 18 X 24 by at least 12 inches deep. Pack down the soil so she can dig and burrow into the mixture. I've never had problems doing it like this.
Take care,
Karen

I use 100% sand for my nest box now but I don't think that's what matters. The substrate should be about 85 degrees and you should dig a starter hole and show it to her.
