Ya win some and ya lose some......

rainbowsrus Apr 22, 2008 11:31 AM

Last week was a winner with a nice litter...

This morning really sucked, during morning cage inspections I noticed a slug in Ruby's cage, she wasn't due for another two weeks and I just knew it was a bad sign. Pulled her hide and found the pile of mostly slugs and some preemies. Looks like about 20 slugs and 10 preemies. Four of the preemies had no signs of life while the other 6 had very minimal signs. I've done what I can for the six and cleaned up the cage. I really don't have much hope for the six, all are small and one is super tiny. Bred by my motley boys, there were 4 motleys and 6 normals all het coral albino. There are 3 mots and 3 normals in the hopeful tub.

Mom is fine and what a sweetie, she was poking around the pile at the same time I was, I think we were both sad over the loss and looking for any signs of life.

Sorry to hear about your lose. Just curious...how old was the male when he bred her? Was she thermoregulating as she should before hand?

Was a pair of young males brothers 1 1/2 year olds. She was kind of hit and miss on the thermoregulating and was not fully ballooning up like she should towards the end.

That is a real bummer. Good luck with the premies.

Sorry to hear that Dave, but at least you have a lot more litters on the way. Things will get better.

I feel your pain... been there, seen that! It sucks, but thats boa breeding.

boaphile Apr 22, 2008 03:45 PM

I mean Dave. I have had a few slugs myself. I usually don't post them though. They aren't nearly as much fun are they?

Hard boil them and use plenty of salt. They really aren't that bad. A bit sticky perhaps...

Sorry to hear the bad news, Dave. I hope momma is doing well, at least. Keep your head up for the rest of your girls that you're expecting from this year I'm sure you'll have something to smile about in the upcoming months.

Best regards,

Jay

It did help to see all the kind words. And I do know the most important part is mom is fine. The worst part for me was that litter was planned specifically for some holdbacks, Motley het Coral Albino female(s) for future projects. Guess those projects will simply take another year!!!

I'm so sorry Dave. At least the mom is OK. Keep your chin up, I'm sure you'll have many more good litters this year!
