Woma egg question

stevet Apr 22, 2008 03:17 PM

I am about to get my first clutch of woma eggs and want to be sure i incubate them correctly. It seems like there is consensus that they should not be in contact with any substrate or if so, that it should be dry. The tub should then be placed inside a larger tub with water in it for humidity and the whole thing incubated at 86-88 degrees. Is that all correct? What is the incubation period? thanks.

Ignore the pancake hatchling picture, I dont know how to unselect it.

The larger tub should have a 2 inch layer of perlite that has a 1/4 - 1/2 inch of standing water in the bottom (when viewed from the side)the smaller tub can be dry but I put a layer of damp material under the dry layer, leave the small tub open and put a lid, with some air holes, on the bigger tub, place this whole package in the incubator and check in 65 days or so and you should see little Womas.

Mine are in plastic shoeboxes in a commercial grade incubator at 89 degrees. They are sitting on reasonably dry vermiculite with minor condensation on the sides of the boxes. They look fine after 2 weeks. I would assume that's similar to the wild.

What is the reason for the perlite in the larger container? Thanks.
