Need Help With Hatchling Veiled Babies!!

tennison_06 Apr 22, 2008 07:02 PM

Just hatched some baby veiled chameleons, which are now about a week--to a week and a half old, and i just had some concerns about how many crickets that they usually consume in a day, and is it normal for the babies to not have their eyes open all the way. A few of the hatchling are almot a week old and still havn't got their eyes open. what can i do or what is the reason for this? And how many days can a hatchling go before it starts to eat? plz help and respond ASAP thanks

You said..."Just hatched some baby veiled chameleons, which are now about a week--to a week and a half old, and i just had some concerns about how many crickets that they usually consume in a day"...I feed them as many as they can eat in a couple of minutes at each feeding until they are several months old.

You said..."is it normal for the babies to not have their eyes open all the way. A few of the hatchling are almot a week old and still havn't got their eyes open"...no, its not normal. They should have their eyes open.

You said.."what can i do or what is the reason for this?"...I can't give you a definite answer about that. It might have to do with vitamin A levels...but I can't be sure. Hopefully someone else will comment on this.

You said..."And how many days can a hatchling go before it starts to eat?"...I have found that most of them eat in the first couple of days...but it depends on how much yolk was left over when they hatched.

ya thanks for your help i was just mainly worried about their eyes. they don't seem to be opening them clearly and everyting is perfectly normal EX: humidity and food and lighting i'm just not for sure about their eyes. About 50% of them are eating normal and the other 50% are the ones with the eye problems.. They all seem to be drinking when i water them, and i was hoping the water would clear their eyes up eventually, so maybe it will. There is also lots of feces on the leaves, but none of them has shed yet. Thanks for the reply and if you have ANY other information plz let me know thanks.
