Egg Problem?????

rugha Apr 22, 2008 09:17 PM

My big bull female dropped 6 eggs roughly 36 hours ago, but has yet to drop anymore. She is still full of them.

Is this normal? What could be the problem?

Please advise!

Thanks!

I've had this same problem from time to time over the years. I'ts usually the egg closest to the vent that is too big, or is positioned wierd. What Has worked great for me is to deflate that egg by useing a 16, or 18 guage syringe. Poke through at the edge of the belly scales, and push through to the center of the egg. Slowly draw back until the syringe is full of yolk, you will see the egg deflating. After that the female will usually pass the rest of the clutch along with the deflated egg within 24 hours.
I hope this helps, I'm not the best with explaining things through typing.

I would wait another 24 hours before doing what I explained above. She may just be resting.

The above advice is solid however I would suggest that the procedure be carried out by a veterinarian to avoid ijury to the animal. It is a fairly easy procedure but if you have never done an egg aspirate it would be best to watch it done by an experienced veterinarian prior to you doing it.

good luck!

It appears that there is a buildup of something at her vent, like perhaps the egg is too big.

Anyway to massage it out? Would that be harmful? I don't want to hurt or lose her as she is my favorite snake -well over 6 footer and tame.

Thanks
