when do male beardies get the big head?

Lizardgirl19 Apr 22, 2008 09:30 PM

My male beardie is a little over a year old, I have seen other males and they have a very large head. I know mine is a male because I can see his femoral pores easily,I want to know when he will get the large head.

I also want to know if he will get heavier as he gets older, cause I noticed that older dragons tend to look wider.

They continue to grow until age 2, atleast...
I know some dragons get up to 700g, however I think the avg is 400g or something,
Their heads will just grow as he will, best way to sex is to lift tail up to a 80 degree angle or so and look for 2 bulges below the vent, or a single, a single bulge in the center is female, a bulge on each side is male.

The pores along the underside of the thighs are not a good accurate way to sex dragons and both male and females have them. The male's pores are bigger but without females of similar size and age, rather impossible to tell.

As for head and body size, again its relative. Males can still have small heads and be less girthy than other males of the same age and size, so there is no way to know if or when they will develop these features.

By two years of age, dragons have typically reached their full growth or at least the bulk of it. Some will continue to get more girth or if over fed, they can still get obese.

If you are wondering more if they are sexually mature for mating, on average a male can be ready to make by 8months of age..or whenever he shows interest in a receptive female. Males who are at least a year old, are your best bet for breeding though.

Hi, When do Males get their big heads, you ask? This is my male Ceaser. I am not sure how old he is. I have heard a few different numbers. (I purchased him late last summer from Dragonz Whispers) I think he is about 10 years old,he is a remarkable dragon. You can see compared to his body his head is huge, thats is no small feat Ceaser himself is almost 800 grams! looking at him next to Juice he makes her look like a spring chicken and she is nearly 520 grams herself! Big head or not I love this dragon! Can you say whopper!.....Scott
