3 striped california king

daerious Apr 22, 2008 11:42 PM

I have a california king with 3 distinct stripes, one is centered down its body like normal, the other two are slightly above the center line when looking from each side. It is very black and the stripes are not white, but almost a real light green or green/yellow. The top stripe is broken into dot dash pattern at the tail. Is this 3 striped cali a specific morph, or maybe a cross bred garter/cali?

Garter snakes and kingsnakes are incapable of hybridizing with each other... Your snake is pure kingsnake. Striped Cal Kings can be highly variable in their pattern, and some of them will have additional stripes on their sides.

Thanks for the info, I actually just found a photo called a mohave california kingsnake:

It looks very similar to mine.

Sometimes when you find things at the pet shop you can't be sure what it is named is actually what it is.

Its a striped cal king. The mojave is just a place where that particular one came from.

Post up some pics of yours.
