Earliest ovulation age?

SadisticMuffin Apr 23, 2008 09:51 AM

I was looking at my pastel rtb last night while doing a cleaning and noticed she looked a little pooched around one section of her body. I took some pictures. It looked a lot like an ovulation swell. Whats the earliest anyone has seen a red tail boa go into ovulation. She is 4ft (and some odd inches) long. And 3 years old. Here is a picture.

I think like any other animal, growth and maturity in boas are dependent on the make-up of the individual animal in addition to environmental factors and husbandry practices. Generalizations can be made based on populations in whole, but there is always room for an individual to buck the trend/averages. I'd say that a boa of the age and size you describe could easily experience a first ovulation. It certainly looks like there is something going on there.

Best of luck.

Although I think that it is possible at that size and age, but I wouldn't recommend it - she's not a mature adult. Did you breed her? She wouldn't be having an ovulation swell unless you bred her. Or do you mean a pre-ovulation swell ? It looks too high up in her body to me , usually they're a bit lower.

I defently havent bread her. I didnt plan on breeding her till next year. Im sort of new to breeding boas. So pre ovulation, or ovulation Im not sure which term to use lol. I made this thread to see if it was uncommon or if it was something to worry about. Hopefully nothing to worry about.
