A few updated photo's..

Phil Peak Apr 23, 2008 05:22 PM

An '04 Kankakee bullsnake that I hatched. This girl is feeding on adult rats and getting huge.

A CB Dekalb county Alabama northern. This snake copulated with another north AL northern last week so I am hoping for a nice clutch of eggs.

A yearling black pine from an exceptional group that I was fortunate enough to put together.

Thanks for all of the great posts lately. I have not visited in a while and its good to see that the forum is active.

Thanks Aubrey. That snake was produced by Lloyd Heilbrunn. If I'm not mistaken I believe that Lloyd's line is from Lloyd Lempke stock.

Good stuff Phil,

I finally have the temporary herp room set up at Mom's house, they'll be there until my fiance and I have our new house. I'll be feeding this weekend and putting critters together in the next few weeks. Whether I have breeding success or not is unimportant; the move from my house to Mom's has been stressful enough for them (and me!), and another move is yet to come. How are the field ventures shaping up this season? Good luck both with breeding and in the field.

Good hearing from you Bart! Breeding saeason is going well and field season is in full swing. I'm heading back out now but I'll shoot you an e-mail this weekend and catch up.

Thanks, Phil

Those are all very nice - I've never seen a Northern quite like that!

Thanks Tim. The red AL northern is a very neat snake. I will be curious to see if any of her offspring have this same trait.

Thanks Jeremy. I witnessed courtship with our KY northerns earlier this week and then backed off to give them some space. We are optimistic that copulation occured.

Thanks, Phil

Outstanding! Those are my favorite northern that I've seen. Keep us posted.

Glad to hear the Ky. Northern pines are doing great Phil. The yellow on them is stunning. Red, yellow, cream, white, I don't think I've ever seen a Northern Pine I didn't like.
Kudos on the book from Will and yourself. I picked me up a copy several weeks ago, and it's outstanding.

Gorgeous Snakes! Is that a typical color for an Alabama Northren?

Phil Peak Apr 26, 2008 09:58 PM

I really cannot speak with authority on this, but I have to admit I am curious myself. She was produced by a friend of mine and from what I have gathered from him and some other trusted sources Alabama melanoleucus show a wide range of variation. My guess is she is more the exception than is typical.

Thanks for the interest,

Phil

Started slow but is picking up nicely! Saw 25 snakes Sunday but 21 were dor's. Still an indicator of movement. Shouldn't be long now.

Same here Todd. Things started out a little slow but have been picking up nicely. Was on vacation last week so had a chance to get out for five full days. Found 102 live snakes and a handfull of DOR's and 16 species of snakes total. Hope the nice Spring weather continues!
