aanata1 Apr 23, 2008 06:08 PM

Genetically speaking. Does it have to do with the type 2 anery gene? Thanks!

Yeah, basically as I've seen it for YEARS, it is a cross/mutt morph that has established a name and a market with no viable offspring of the SUPPOSED end result. If this were the norm, moonglows would be Avalanche boas as I believe Kirby came up with this name long before the end result was achieved.

Agreed...Kirby named the Hypo Arabesque Snow the Avalanche... I like that name alot better than moonglow...

I will have to check the posts that Frank made when the litter was first unveiled, but I believe the Arabesque Snow was the combo that got the Avalanche name. The Hypo designation was still under consideration in that particular boa. And when it was decided that it was also Hypo, it was called the Hypo Avalanche.

This was fairly easy to recall as I put it on my "Boa List" shortly after, and talked to Frank many times for clarification.

While I don't agree with names being thrown out before a living example is produced, the name does have history coming from Corn Snakes, so it is a logical one.

shouldn't we have one called an ultramel then?

ChrisGilbert Apr 25, 2008 11:49 PM

If you are referencing the Paradigm, the genetics on it weren't fully understood when it was named. I also believe that most people, including Mike, didn't know about the Ultramel. I had heard of it, but had no idea about the genetics. Some Boa breeders started out in Corns, others never touched them. And not all Boa morph names follow Corn snakes, but many due. Example being Ghost, but Moonglow doesn't. The Hypo Snow in corns is called a Hypo Snow, lol.
