Let's go to Kansas and find a milk,

terryd Apr 24, 2008 05:40 PM

Okay here we go.

Let's see what is under those hands.

Yesss, Gentilis.

Could there be gentilis under those rocks?

Not here.

Now I'm mad! And I'm still sleepy

Not a gentilis. But a good find.

Not here either.

Try another place.

Not here.

Now were talking.

Last but not least, one multistrata that Cole found.

Thanks for looking. -Dell

It's hard to find a gentilis that ISN'T sharing a rock with a ringneck or 10...

DMong Apr 25, 2008 12:01 PM

Boy!,.....that sure does seem to be the deal in them thar parts!..LOL!,....as Cole's post makes very evident.

Sorry for any duplicate animals - I'll try to keep that to a minimum!

The quest for L.t. gentilis started out cold and rainy. That, however, didn't stop the Diadophis from being active:

Such an awesome animal... and they were under almost every rock.

The Tantilla were active, too. We actually found two on this trip:

Some of the Crotaphytus were up and going, others still thought is was winter. All were grumpy:

A cute little Sisturus catenatus was a gem to behold:

Plestiodon (Eumeces) obsoletus are just bad-ass:

and even put up with Scolopendra centipedes!

Pantherophis (Elaphe) guttatus emoryi are fantastic!

And the true gems of the trip, L.t. gentilis:

and a parting shot of senor Dell enjoying a skink

Quite the killer safari you guys had!, that had to have been a blast!,......those little dudes are MUCH easier to photograph when they're lethargic from the cold,..heh!,..you can practically pose them like little clay figures!..LOL!

thanks for sharing that trip of pics!

I'll answer for Dell, since he's out of town for a few days...

It was a male and female! Dell flipped the rock and found the female, took some photos, and let her go. Then, he and Chad decided to take a few more photos, so Chad flipped the rock again. Under it was the original female AND a male that had followed scent! How awesome is that?!

Ill tell you its happened to me. I went to my favorite eastern milk snake spot here in new york a few years ago and found a nice adult female, then went to another spot to poke around. One hour later while driving past the favorite spot I decided to take another look and found a knockout male under the same tin. Ill try to post a few pics of those snakes. It seems the last two weeks of april are the mating weeks in kansas but a bit later where i live in lower new york state.
