Kingsnakes in Missouri

DanW Apr 24, 2008 09:13 PM

I will be in central Missouri for several weeks and was wondering if anyone might know good places to look for kingsnakes? Does anyone have pics of Missouri locale kings?

Thanks,
Dan

I lived in Columbia, MO (Mizzou) for 7 years. Your best bet is the southwest portin of the state with all the large, large glades, prairies, and the prairie/ozark interface on state and federal land. There are plenty of places to look in the southern Ozark area of Missouri - I know south and south-central Missouri very, very well (Pulaski, Texas, Laclede, Carter, Oregen Cos, etc.) Don't get busted on MDC (Missouri Department of Conservation) land because they will get you. I used to bust guys flipping rocks for collared lizards all the time.

Branso's not a bad place because those bozos are destroying everything there, so you should bag any king you find not on protected land.

Actually I am staying in Jefferson City. On weekends I may venture to other parts but that is where I am now. Is MDC land clearly marked? Thing is I don't know where anything is here or where to go. This is all new territory to me.

Thanks,
Dan
