I do it with my ackies with no problem. A light is not the sun, it's a source of heat, and I think that the lizards know this.

I think that it's really up to you and what you're comfortable with (and what you're able to do). I prefer to keep my conditions very stable and allow my lizards to choose their own cycles. I know some folks to keep lights on 24/7, and some who do artificial 'cycles.' They both have similar results.

Cheers,
Ryan

I have a number of cages that have had their lites on since 1991 and have had no problems other then having to many babies.

Of course I have other cages where the lites are on in the day and off at night, again no problems.

I also have outdoor cages with natural lite, no problems there either. And indoor outdoor cages with natural lite outside and lites on 24/7 and no problems there.

I also kept some monitors with no lites what so ever, but have the ability to gain heat with heat blankets, no problems there either.

All the above was tested for a very long time and is still being tested.

It appears the above is not what kills off monitors, that must be about poor husbandry, lack of proper temps, and a general lack of understanding of what reptiles do. Because the lites did not change anything. Oh wait, with the lites on 24/7, individual monitors in a group cage would bask at night so as not to be bothered by ME first, and other monitors second.

That includes my lone Sav. She hates to be bothered, so she mostly comes out at night. But at the first sign of humans, she hides. But keep in mind, shes doing great, great health and dropped eggs, etc.

I like lites on 24/7 because it allows them to do what they want and understand, and not get stuck with what we think we understand. Cheers
