Stubborn feeder. Advice?

syndicate559 Apr 24, 2008 10:16 PM

I've had my 600g female Graziani pastel for 3 weeks now. She's an '07 and considering the fact that she's already reached 600 grams, she obviously likes to eat. But I haven't been able to get her to take anything yet. I've offered small mice, small rats and nothing works. She was feeding live at the breeder, so that's all I've offered her. I switched her over to paper towels when I found out that's what she was on before, but still nothing. Any ideas? All four of my other balls are eating just fine in the same rack. Thanks for any help you can give.

when i first got my new female, she waited almost a month before eating, sometimes they just take awhile to get acclimated to their new environment. just be patient keep offering she will eventually get hungry and eat

What are the dementions on her enclosure. When mine went off feed for a long time the fine people here told me my enclosure was to big, I put them in a smaller enclosure and they are eating like crazy now.

she's in a 32-quart Sterilite bin. I have snakes 1/3 her size eating just fine in the same size. I can't imagine that's the problem, but do you guys think it might be?

I also gave her a hide and large water bowl, so there is lots of 'cover' for her. This has all been done in the past week, so I'm hoping she continues to get more comfortable. I just want to get it figured out before it becomes a serious issue.

The hide is a good thing, but if she wasn't in a 32 until you- that could be it.

I agree that a 32qt should be a good size for her but I'd also suggest you give her a 10-14 day break without offering anything. Then offer a live Weaner Rat at night with a kibble for the rat to eat... leave the rat overnight & remove in the morning if she doesn't feed.

If that doesn't do the trick, wait another 10 days, move her to a 15qt & do the same procedure. All the Best- Deb
