Our 1st ever hatchling!

maizeysdad Apr 25, 2008 05:44 PM

My sons' two "female" leos generated a clutch of eggs a while back.

The 1st egg hatched today. I know almost nothing about geckos, so tell me what you think of this little bugger. Parents are Het Bell Albino, BTW. What would a baby Bell Albino look like?

Thanks for looking.

That isnt a bell albino but it is an awesome reverse stripe! I assume you have a pair instead of two females!ha ha. I type way too slow to explain parthenogenic reproduction in reptiles anyway. cool baby

Thanks. Yes, one of the "females" has tell-tale pores and bulges.

They were purchased as babies and housed together. Next thing you know, I'm a grandpa.

Is the reverse stripe a desirable trait in Leos?

KyleFrost Apr 25, 2008 06:17 PM

Yes. in some cases more than albinos! The stripe/jungle appearance has popped up from time to time but has never proven to comply with any simple genetic rules. The cool thing is that if you have a pair that produced a stripe you likely have more to come and maybe a striped albino will be in your future too. It looks like you did well with the unexpected fertile eggs as the baby appears plump and healthy. Congrats and good luck!!

Looking around the web at pictures, this baby looks like a "bold stripe." Sweet deal for an accidental baby. : )
