Picture of one of my imitators

kyle1745 Aug 30, 2003 10:16 AM

Here is a picture of one of my imitators, from Quality Captives. I have moved them to the 15gal High, and one is calling already.

They are still getting used to the new tank, so it is hard to get pic and not scare them. So here is one so far:

Aren't they beautiful? I love the way the gold sparkles in good light and how it shades to green-gold, then green down the back. They have "personality," too.

I've been thoughtfully considering what my next frog acquisition will be, and imitators are on that short list. I still have a lot of prep work to do before then, but I know that I will definitely be getting them from Quality Captives. Sarah and Melissa are fantastic, and they have superb frogs. If you ever get a chance to go to a show where they are a vendor, you should JUMP at the chance. They're a lot of fun, and it's just too cool to check out all of they're great frogs!

Man, I'm starting to sound like a spokesperson here. I just can't help it.

Yes they are both very nice. I'm not sure they are breeding imitators. I think the ones I got, were off of friends of theirs. Eiher way they were great to work with, and very helpful when I first was starting out. As for seeing them at a show I don't believe that they have a table at the Columbus show anymore, but they stop in with Mike from rainforest junkies from time to time.

As for imitators so far I think they are very cool. I'm waiting to see how active they will be over time.

I've read that they were a great intro into the thumbnail frogs, so I am starting there. With hopes of getting something a little more rare next year. We will see...

Thanks, I am not sure what bloodline they are from, but I know that they are from unrelated parents. They both seem to be males, and I am still on a waiting list with Patrick at Saurian for 4 more so we will see. This way I know I will have some from different bloodlines. The list is long which is good, since I need to slow down. I've spent way too much this year on frog stuff already.

I had bought 3, but I think I made a mistake by putting them all in a small critter keeper, because the smaller one died. One day before I was going to put the larger ones in the main tank and let the smaller one grow. I think that one of the larger ones killed it because it was eating and was getting fat.

The other 2 are doing great and I know at least one is calling, but they are not comfortable enough in there new home to call with me around.
