Argentine Red Tegu

Rtegu Aug 30, 2003 10:17 AM

Will my 2 year old Red tegu eat a frozen/ thawed mouse? He has been eating catfood, fruit, insects since i've had him. Will he eat a small fuzzie if I thaw it and put it in his bowl? I dont have to wiggle it in front of him right? And do mice stay good if they remained frozen in a refrigerator for a year or two?

I know this sounds a little gross, but I've started cutting the pinkie or fuzzy in half the first time I present one to a lizard. They seem perplexed by the pinkie at first, but once they catch the scent of its blood, they usually chow down enthusiastically. I'm not sure how long mice stay good frozen. The one time I bought enough mice to last for about six months, we lost electricity for four days the day after they arrived, and they were all ruined!

cat food is very high in fat content and is not good for your tegu or any other reptile.

rodents loose their nutitional value the longer they stay frozen. After 6 months they don't have enough nutritional value to offer as food
