Black Bellies-- I Did My Best...

kinderman Apr 26, 2008 09:49 PM

... but I think you get the general idea. They were active, I was alone, one was with children while the other will be soon. They were not pissy or snappy -- just SASSY!!! I'm sure they are no worse for wear. My third girl, who is close to dropping her clutch was having none of it -- I left her alone! I tried some natural light and some flash. They do look more striking in person. I will get some better shots after they lay.

They all have the same odd neck break, high yellow sides and THAT BELLY!!!! It runs almost the entire length of their body. It is very concentrated. Their eyes are greenish-yellow. They are DIFFERENT looking!!! As per my post below (you might want to read it), these are c.h. girls and are not proven Black Bellies -- yet.

When I was taking my shots you can almost see the Yellow Jacket/Bumble Jacket screaming to come out. I can only wait and hope. I am going to try and post pics in groups of three. I have never done mult. pics before. If I have to post six -- sorry in advance. Enjoy the pics. I'll keep everyone abreast of the outcome either way.

I love their markings...... I haven't heard much about black bellies, mind telling me where you got them? Is there a super form?

Jen,
They are WAY better in person. They have an odd shimmery glow about them. They really are the "Has to be genetic!" kind of ball. I posted below under "Black Belly" earlier today. It will give you some of the back story that I am privy too. My girls are from Ian who proved the original Black Belly that when crossed with a Pastel made the Yellow Jacket. He is breeding for the Super Black Belly this season -- so we should know. They are rare. I have only seen one Yellow Jacket up for sale about a year ago. Never have seen a Black Belly. It is hard not to get my hopes too far up for the Bumble Jacket. It would likely look like a lemon -- on FIRE!!!
