Dwarf Retic Genetics Questions

dmasio13 Apr 27, 2008 01:16 AM

Okay let me start off by saying this maybe a stupid question for some of you. Im thinking of purchasing a 1.1 pair of 08 Dwarf Tigers from Steve Gooch and I was wondering about the genetics of the dwarf. I have been keeping balls for about 6 years now and have bred them the last 4 and I know their genetics pretty well by now but I dont know if the dwarf is a dominant mutation like the spider is in bps, or is it a co-dom like the pastel or hw does it work? If someone can explain or point me in the direction of a website that explains it I would greatly appreciate it Thanks in advance

Dwarf retics are locallity specific. Morphs have nothing to do with it. The dwarf tigers you are refering to are produced by breeding a Jampea dwarf to a normal tiger. Jampea's have proven to reach 15ft in length. I'm not sure what dwarf means to you but keep in mind that these animals can get very large. Tigers are one of the largest morphs out there (known to get HUGE). Hope this helps you out.

Actually, this clutch of dwarf tigers that Steve has are from breeding a superdwarf female to a dwarf supertiger. They are 50% dwarf, 25% superdwarf and 25% normal. I only know this because I just bought a female from him. The superdwarf mother is only 8 feet long and weighs less than 10 lbs. If you buy a pair and breed them, the offspring will also be 50% dwarf, 25% superdwarf and 25% normal. They will stay small like their mother. Hope this helps.

I just bought one of the females from Steve as well. Sweet--sweet animal. I know this isn't a feedback thread--but you won't be disappointed getting these from Steve!

Good luck!
