problem, need some help

brick1 Apr 27, 2008 01:59 AM

after getting my stubborn feeder to eat, i seem to have another problem with another one of the young ones. I checked him today, and he still has quite a large bump in his mid body, basically exactly in the middle of him. Felt it and it feels quite hard, sort of like he has not digested his last meal, which was 2 fluffys,(not sure if thats what called, but i think week old, just got fur, approx 5-7grams. The snake is currently weighing 110grams. I searched for a poo from his last feeding, and only found the white stuff. But never seem to be able to find the poo in amongst all the substrate.

problem or? it has been 6 days since his last feed, and it really does feel hard. Tried to get pics, but they really didnt work out, and dont really want to get him back out of cage, just want to leave him.

Ideas??? bit worried now

From my observations with my younger ones, if I feed them a large meal the lump stays there for a few days. I've never felt the lump before, so I can't say anything about the hardness. Also, I have noticed that they don't poop after every meal. Sometimes it takes a couple weeks for them to leave me a little gift. They always seem to be passing those urates, though.

These are just my observations from my collection. Hopefully one of the "masters" will have some advice for you.

Actually something I've never seen, maybe have had it but not noticed it???

not saying your setups/care is lacking in any of the following points, just going through them in order...

Step 1 - VERIFY temps and humidity!!! 78-80 degrees maybe a coupleof degrees warmer in a basking spot. My babies are in a tub rack with belly heat set around 79-80 degrees and they thrive!!! Humidity, I do NOT even own anything to measure humidity. Just look at the front of the cage, condensation = humidity in the air!!

Step 2 - make sure the little guy has a nice soaking spot with water that is also a nice temp. Maybe even put him in to soak? I'm assuming he's active and responsive?

Step 3 - WAIT for the lump to go AWAY before even thinking of feeding again.

Wait a minute, just connected the dots, 110 gram snake, two 5-7 gram fuzzies and a big lump??? At 5-7 grams that would be fuzzy mice, one of those by itself would not be a large meal for a baby BRB. At 110 grams, taking down two should not be a large meal either. ?????

sorry maybe large was the wrong word. More the fact that i could feel it. when i took him out, i could see a slight lump, when belly was up. So hard a feel of it, and just felt quite strange, didnt post the pics cos couldnt really see anything. Another snake, maybe 15grams heavier ate same meal at same time, an nothing can be noticed. Its more that when held, really felt like had fed him that day, not 6 days before.

Temps and humidity fine, humidity too high if anything, reader only goes to 95% and it doesnt even bother giving me a reading. Snakes are active, they seem to all be out, for an hour or 2 at night, rest of time hidden under water bowl. When had him out, probably wasnt as feisty as the others, but think is just a more timid snake. Was thinking of giving him a day or 2, then maybe a bath in some nice warmish water. If nothing changed in 4-5 days, might have to really think hard what to do.
