I threw my female amel Cal King in with the male MBK before her first shed. I still can't seem to feel the pearls that FR and other gurus talk about, but she was obviously swollen and had no sign of shedding soon, so in she went.
Copulation - March 16th.
She went into blue just a few weeks later and shed - April 9th - just 24 days after copulation.
She finally laid her first egg around 11PM on April 26th - 17 days after her shed. First egg looks good, hopefully the rest come today (27th)
17 days seems like a LONG time from prelay to lay, but OTOH her prelay was rather close to the copulation.
Anyway - all the rules seem to have been broken about how long it takes, but copulation to eggs actually seems to be somewhat inline with what is to be expected.
It seems to be a weird year for some others as well in California, at least with some corn breeders I correspond with - maybe the la niña or something is messing with them.

I decided my old sig was too big.
