Field collecting (non snake photo)

mike_panic Apr 27, 2008 11:03 AM

I was out early this morning. I was working a field out in Moriches Long Island. It was very cool so I wasnt expecting any herps to be out. I'm not sure about upstate NY, but when it comes to finding Eastern Milks out on the Island, this is a sure sign of them. This is what they are feeding on out here. I disturbed this poor mom when I flipped an old door. Cool pics I thought though. Thanks for looking. Mike Panichi

On a similar note - One of my feeder mice escaped and remained at large in the house for a month, Then one night we were able to corner it and recover the mouse.

The mouse had been loose for too long, and would never settle down or re-integrate with the colony. all the snakes were recently fed, and our monitor is still too small to eat an adult mouse.

So I took him out in the woods and set him free.

Who knows, someday I may find calico mix field mice in my yard

"Like a true natures child, he was born to be wild"

It rained like the dickens last night, I couldn't help but wonder how he liked his first storm?

We do have a lot of milk snakes around, so he's on his own there.

one of my best field memories is of catching a big eastern milk in upstate NY (chittenango NY, a little east of syracuse) when I was growing up.

some friends and I were standing next to a patch of weeds about 15'x30' talking and goofing when I heard a squeak. It kept going and going, so we started looking through the patch. After it got quiet we found a 3 1/2' footer just finishing a mouse. we never would've even known it was there if that mouse wasn't squeaking.
