Old elapsoides pic

DMong Apr 28, 2008 01:45 PM

Sorry for the fuzzy out of focus pic, but it's one of the only ones I had of some hatchlings from an old 35 mm taken many years back.

Watching those little guys "pip" was quite a sight, all five eggs hatched!

that's ausome Gerrit I can't wait to see those hypo nelsoni pip!

DMong Apr 28, 2008 08:25 PM

Geeez, Gerrit!,...that's a big ol' pile!

My eggs were usually more elongated, those are much rounder looking. I guess yours pretty much HAD to be, or all those eggs would have been practically backed up to her throat!..LOL!

best regards, ~Doug

Nice elapsoides, Doug! Must be nice to live at the heart of the range of those little red-headed gems!

Thanks Cole!,......Ya know, you're right, it is nice to be in central Florida where they are plentiful, and I've been meaning to get out for the longest time and find some. I really DO have to make a point sometime soon to go looking for some of those cute little critters! I go fishing alot, so I really should substitute some fishin' for some herpin'!

I'm sure you guys are getting tired of me posting last years
c.b. Scarlets, so next week I'll post some pics of some of my
new captures, that is if I see any. LOL!!!! Heading to southern North Carolina tomorrow for a week of herping, I can't wait. It's kind of a bummer that we're only allowed 4 herps this year.
Oh well, I guess that way there will be more for future trips, if they don't decide to build a Super Walmart with a 50 acre parking structure on my favorite spots.

Man I'd settle for that one! Nothing yet -- busy weekend. Frankly I'd settle for one walking the dog in the park... gonna get an actual day to go out this week. It'd be nice to see anything!

I've been out flippin every chance I get here in S. Florida hoping to find a couple elapsoides. So far I've only come up with a bunch of southern ringnecks, racers, and brahminy blinds. I know elapsoides are often found under bark of standing dead pines, but I'm not too keen on stripping bark off trees, even if they are dead. Has anyone ever found scarlets under logs or non natural cover in South Florida?
