Desert Iggy trio arriving tomorrow!

Rosebuds Apr 28, 2008 04:14 PM

I don't know where else to post this, but I am getting a trio of desert iggies tomorrow. I am very excited! But there aren't too many care sheets out there on these guys, and when I find one, it is a chuck, desert iggy combo care sheet.

So, I will have a 160 watt megaray over them and try to keep the basking temps about like I do for the uros, 120-130 degrees, cool side temps around 80, low hides that I am making out of landscape stones. My guess is that they eat much like the uros?

Is there anything that drastically differs from a uro setup and diet that I should know about? I have super fat, healthy, happy uros.

Awesome, they are NEAT critters I have had a desert iggy for about 5 years and must say I keep him like the chucks.

I think your temps are much more for the uro, and a bit high for the iggies. I keep my temps about 90 - 100 degrees may go a hair above on hot summer days, 110 degrees, but they usually go on the cool end in afternoon.

Others may want to chime in on the temps, hope they do so you can get more opinions.

Best wishes with the trio remember to post some pics. And YES, we talk desert iggies here, and some other deserty lizards that have no specific forum.

Yes, I'm about to bust! I am also trying to get in line for one of Tom's red back chuck babies!

Well, I'm glad that I asked. All of the info that I have read, which isn't much, says the hotter the better for both. Of course they will be under a Megaray like all of my other high UVB critters.

I will take pics, but I haven't figured out how to post pics in this format. Do you photo bucket and copy and paste or can you attach a pic another way?

And they are gorgeous!

My new beauties are settling in, and I have a question about diet. As per the deer fern farms web site, I provide ground beans and small bird seed for my uros. Do the chucks and DIs need that too?

I LOVE these lizards! I have a big calm one, a curious and really friendly one, and a shy one. Now for some names . . .

Mine never ate birdseed or beans, but loves veggies and some fruits, collard green, kale, dandilines greens and love the flowers too, shredded carrot, shredded squash, sweet potato, romaine, turnip greens, just try things.

My hershey loves banana chunks, rose pedals, hibiscus, clover, daylily, like I say try veggies and flowers(edible) and fruits,....

They look great, best wishes with them Rosebuds

AWWWW!!!! I need to fatten mine up!

Yeah, that sounds like the usual fare around here. I make a giant dark green and red salad with chopped veggies for the lizards and birds, and then add this and that depending on where the bowl is going: beans and seed for the birds and uros, bugs for the beardies and Talulah, the lone collared who needs buddies really bad (Eve, hint hint :e), and flowers for all the lizards.

They are really cool! One is very skittish, but the other two are super sweet.

Now, do you grow creosote for the desert iguanids? I am thinking about getting some seeds . . .
