Looking to put a humidifier in for my Jungle Carpet Python. Are there any cheap alternatives to the expensive Zoo Med type designs?
Take a five gallon bucket and fill it with water. go to the fish store and buy the cheapest air pump they have, an air stone, and some airline tubing. do not spend more than $20. Go home and airate that bucket in a corner of the room and you will be good to go.
If you are looking for something to go into the cage you have to be a little more creative. The easiest thing to do would be to create some sort of moving water feature using a circulating pump. You could also close up some ventilation.
There used to be cool air humidifiers that had a big blue rectangular top and cool steam would come out of an opening in the top. You could route the mist through PVC tube into the cage. They probably cost around $60 though.

Kind of what Zach pointed out here, but, take a plastic container, and poke some holes in the lid. Run an airline tube down through one of the holes into the container, and fill the container (mostly) full of water. Hook up an air pump to the hose, and it'll aerate the water, which will make the water evaporate very quickly, raising the humidity. And this will fit right in your cage. You could also put an air stone right in the water dish, but beware- it'll evaporate their water fast!
I keep my JCP in a large Sterile box with air holes in the sides. Even with only a large water bowl, the sides always have a little condensation. For my other snakes, I've used bowls with paper wet paper towels to increase humidity quickly and cheaply.
As far as a cheaper humidifier alternative, you may want to think about rigging something up using a simple room humidifier found in any drug store or at Wal-Mart or other department store. I have one that I picked up for about $15.

if you're using a plastic enclosure like a sterelite container, I would suggest placing a heat pad under one end of the cage and leaving a water dish in that end. You'll see condensation within a few hours as it evaporates the water.
