I just got a chubby frog a few days ago and am growing increasingly more concerned that the lighting/heating isn't good yet. Currently, I have a basking light shining on him at an angle about 2-2.5 feet away from the top of the cage. The temperature gets to be about 70-75 during the day. At night (12 hour light/dark) the temperature drops to about 65 degrees F. I want to get a new light because when that thing goes on it lights up my whole room. At the same time, I would like to get a light to shine on him during the night that will produce heat but not a lot of brightness (maybe a heating pad?). I was told that the tank should be kept humid, so the light during the day does that while drying out the substrate so there's not too much water.
So......
Do chubbies need the heat? light? Can I get a low wattage bulb and put that in a fixture that sits on top of the cage so that its not extremely bright? What kind of bulb? Should I get a heat pad? How sensitive are chubbies to temp change??
Thanks in advance!!!
