OT looking good...

Here is a pic from yesterday of my (I think) gravid female Dumeril's Boa.

She is thermoregulating and behaving like a gravid female snake. Feeding intermitted at this point and hugging her 85 degree hot spot. (any higher she moves off the spot). All her scales are separated from mid point to almost her tail and she is looking LARGE to say the least. As in other gravid females when she moves the "lump" dissipates and gives her a normal but yet still large appearance.

So who knows the pair bred repeatedly from Nov - Feb with most copulations in Dec/Jan.

Time will tell!!!

a few days ago...

today pic...

My Brazilians just bred again a few days ago and he has seemed to finally loose interest after an almost 6 month courting period. He is a little stud BRB lol. She is slightly over 5 lbs but not looking gravid to me in any way. She is solid like a brick you know what house and tough to read and not behaving gravid, she was laying in odd positions several months ago, but just looks large with slight interstitial skin showing but she eats like a hog and this makes me believe she is just "fat" from eating.

BRB's can be hard to tell. Yeah, been breeding them for years. Some females are NSS (No S _ _ _ Sherlock) obviously gravid, BUT, others are maybe gravid maybe not. Often those will either not be gravid at all or gravid with a smallish litter. I always vote/hope for the smallish litter.

It is possible since they where just mating with castings in the water that she can become gravid as recently as this week. I am assuming castings mean viable sperm is being produced.

Do castings mean viable sperm is in the mists????

She also seems to goes thru periods where I think she is gravid or slugging because when I feed her the "lump" seems to make her larger then she should normaly be in regards to a non-gravid snake.

If she is gravid now, it would have been in the last week. She would not become gravid until she ovulates with viable sperm present. That sperm can be deposited days/weeks/months and even years prior. In my experience, once she ovulates, the male loses interest. So, if still actively breeding, she was not gravid at that time!!

I would have to disagree with castings = viable sperm being produced. Yeah, strong probability and even stronger if the male is a proven breeder. Castings = male actively breeding, could be sterile and still breeding??

Could be the process of ovulating? Making her insides swollen? One good reason for going with smaller meals during the mating season.

so casting equal sperm production even if not viable sperm?

IMO casting = actively breeding (one would assume and hope viable sperm production/transfer was involved)
