I got this as a Mexican Bull snake but what seems to be cross names the Durango Mountain Bull snake looks nothing like this gal. She is about 5ft long and sweet as can be. Can you tell me what you think she is.

Thank you,
Alex L. Smith

The South Texas strain bulls that John Cherry sent me last year look just like that. Do you have a closer shot of the head? What does the rostral scale look like?

I got this as a rescue being that it couldn't digest a mouse that has been inside of it for at least a month and a half. Before I took it too the vet I want to see if it could pass it by putting it in warm water in the sun in a locked screen cage and after about an hour I came and found a HUGE black rubber glove and the lump inside the animal was no longer there. I don't know what or how that happened. I'm going to try to feed it shortly and hopefully everything is fine.

Thanks for all the help.

Most Pituophis (catenifer, melanoluecas) have 4 prefrontal scales. These are the scales that cross the face 2 rows behind the rostral. It would look like this:

X (rostral)
X X (internasal- I think)
XXXX (prefrontal)

P. deppei (both ssp) have only 2 prefrontals- more like a kingsnake or ratsnake.

I agree with the other posters here- looks a lot like a sonoran gopher. What did you pay for it? Deppei that size would probably go for $150 while sonorans would be more like $80 .
