R.I.P. Chuck - Old Friend...

shiveley Apr 30, 2008 05:30 PM

My beloved chuckwalla "Chuck" whom I collected as a hatchling in 1994 during a field study in a remote region near Death Valley for San Jose State University has died. He was as "dog tame" as any reptile I've ever encountered. This was probably in part due to the fact that I hand-fed him for the first several months of his captivity. I raised him from a two-and-a-half inch hatchling, to a beautiful and boisterous adult. He was not only responsive, interactive, and engaging, but he was my friend. He shall be missed...

Really sorry, I mean that from every inch of my being, as I have one that I have raised from a baby who also is dog tame and would be devastated if/ when ...I ever lose him.

I truly hope you feel better soon and get yourself another little kid chuck to work with and become friends with some where down the line. There are many that need a home and buddy like yourself.

Take care, he was a lucky guy!

I am so sorry for your loss.

I rehab lizards, and have to hand feed some of them long term. You just form a super close bond with them when you do that. They become like kids. That is a wonderful gift while they are here and a huge heartbreak when you lose them.

I hope you open your heart to another chuck, too.
