possible eye illness

mdterp Apr 30, 2008 05:36 PM

So today i went out to check on my turtle and picked him up to have a look at him, but his eyes were shut. They might have been swollen, but i don't know. So I took him inside to give him a soak and see if that helped, but when we got inside he opened 1 eye and then the other. I soaked him anyways. Why were his eyes shut? Could it be an illness?

If they were just closed, no swelling or mucous, then he was probably just sleeping.

How long have you had this turtle and what are you feeding it? What is the weather like in your area?

Closed eyes by itself is not an problem-but if the turtle is being kept in suboptimum conditions or fed improperly, then it could be a sign the turtle's health is failing.

Think about its care and see if there is something more you should be doing, and then please start now before the closed eyes become a symptom of illness.
