Real Plants vs Fake Plants

ChicoB Aug 30, 2003 02:53 PM

Hi all!
Ok my question is this. I can go to any craft store and buy a whole jungle of fake plants and vines for like 10 bucks. Do you all think a Veiled chameleon would rather have a few real plants or do you thing it would prefer a jungle of fake ones? I guess i could do both but i really dont feel like taking care of the plants aswell as the cham. Let me know what you would do.

Veilds like to eat plant matter, so some real plants should be put in. Best would be a jungle of non- toxic real plants, but a combination of nontoxic real plants and fake plants would be alright. Make sure there is absulutely NO way that the cham can ingest any part of the fake plants, because a veild probably will try. If at all feasible though, I would say go with an all live jungle. Good luck!

Live plants are important for a couple of reasons (but there's no reason you can't have both). Live plants provide more stable air humidity that even spraying 2-3 times a day can't especially if you live in a drier climate, have forced air heat or AC. Live plants also filter the air...which is important in a relatively enclosed humid space. If you don't think you want to maintain live plants you may find a cham is too much daily work as well. Just a thought, as plants don't take much attention compared to a cham.
