cockroaches?

gyke Aug 30, 2003 04:46 PM

Do most chinese water dragons like eating cockroaches? After having her eggs one of my females will only eat crickets and superworm beetles, so I am looking for something else to feed her. How hard are they to keep and breed? Also, are there any types that won't infest your house if they got loose? Where could you get them and how much do they cost? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks.

an answer to your question. yes, in my experience most seemed to go "nuts" over the odd cockroach. I myself breed blaberus cranifer,"deaths head roach". they are packed with protein and a great food source for reptiles and amphibians. I know my australians love them. keep them at 78-85 degrees and feed dog chow and fruits and vegetables. they will breed like crazy, provided that you supply them with the essentials. and it might take up to 6 months for a colony to start producing for you. though thats if nymphs are what you start out with. i personally believe that its well worth the time and effort.

you can purchase them from roachman willis. he is great. blaberus is great because it wont infest your home. they are tropical and a low drop in temp will kill them. as well, they do not climb glass or any other smooth surfaces. so easy to house and cheap to feed. my monthly cost are about $0. so easy, easy, easy. check out allpet roaches site, and roachman willis's site for more info.
